The children begin the program by telling the story of a little seed that grows into delicious produce. This is done through yoga poses, which quickly grabs the children's imaginations and attention. We then explore together why fruit and vegetables are good for our bodies and why you should eat a rainbow of different coloured produce. By using interactive props and games, we are able to encourage an environment of curiosity toward their bodies and their food. This new found confidence and sense of adventure is put to the test when the children are presented with a variety of fresh and seasonal fruits and vegetables to taste. The children are encouraged to smell, feel and perhaps taste the produce, and share their experience with their peers. The program concludes with a free movement exercise, where the children can play out their favourite fruit or vegetable.
The program was constructed with the Education Department's Belonging, Being and Becoming - the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) at front of mind. EYLF is a key component of the National Quality Framework for early childhood education across Australia. From Seed To Plate focuses on Outcome 3 (Children have a strong sense of wellbeing) and Outcome 4 (Children are confident and involved learners).
From Seed To Plate costs $75.00 for a 30 minute class of up to 30 students. The Making Healthy Normal team supplies all of the props and fresh produce needed for the day.
